Scientist II, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) at Second Genome
Brisbane, CA, US

Hi, we’re Second Genome.

We are a fast-paced and innovative venture-backed biotechnology company developing tomorrow’s breakthrough therapeutics at the interface of complex microbial communities and their host environments.  We have developed the most advanced platform to translate microbial genomics into novel therapeutic solutions for chronic diseases and are advancing our drug development programs towards human clinical trials.

And we’re looking for an Inflammatory Bowel Disease Scientist II.

We’re on the search for a Scientist with experience in mucosal biology, immunology and inflammatory diseases to join our discovery team and the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) program. We are looking for someone who is excited about working in an interdisciplinary team to discover and develop novel therapeutics for IBD, lead the scientific development of assays from concept to pre-IND and drive the biological understanding of novel therapeutics in our early pipeline. • You will lead, facilitate and document project team meetings, and management of external collaborators and CROs.
  • You will mentor and lead Scientists, Research Associates and Senior Research Associates toward fulfilling program goals.
  • By staying up-to-date on relevant science and research, you will make meaningful strategic contributions to the direction of the overall IBD program.

What You Bring to the Role

  • You have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in biology, pharmacology, or related discipline with at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience in immunology and inflammatory diseases, including at least 2 years in drug discovery.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in GI biology, inflammation, gut microbiome and fibrosis, is a plus.
  • A track record of sustained, significant scientific contributions as demonstrated by publications, patents, and presentations is required.
  • Strong scientific background and experience with assay development and validation in multiple technology platforms.
  • You have experience designing experiments to understand mechanisms of action.
  • You are an expert in human and rodent primary cell isolation, cell and tissue culture, gene expression and histology.
  • You have expertise in the design and execution of flow cytometry experiments and experience with scRNAseq and immunoassays such as ELISAs and/or MSDs.
