Director of Product Development 

This position will oversee reagent development. As a key part of the New Product Introduction process, you will oversee the transformation of research projects that exit feasibility and pass the Decision to Commercialize checkpoint into commercially released products. Your team sits at the critical nexus of Research, Bioinformatics, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Process Development, Manufacturing, Technical Support, Product Marketing, Sales, Logistics and Product Management. The candidate must have a broad working knowledge of molecular biology and assay development. Previous product development experience as demonstrated by significant contributions to launched products is essential.


  • Optimize reagents and protocols
  • Guard-banding
  • Specify raw materials acceptance criteria and specifications
  • Conceive, develop, and validate new QC methods and specifications
  • Transfer new methods and specifications to QC
  • Finalize Bill of Materials and Transfer to Manufacturing
  • Work with Process Development and Manufacturing to develop Formulation SOPs
  • Finalize User Guides and transfer to Technical Support
  • Partner with Manufacturing on Alpha Builds for testing and Early Access programs
  • Perform Verification and Validation
  • Shipping Stability testing plan
  • Long-term product stability testing plan
  • Partner with Product Marketing and Sales to provide data as needed to ensure successful product launch
  • Hire and mentor a successful development team
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Masters or Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of industry experience, with at least 2 years of development experience
  • Demonstrated behaviors consistent with Mission Bio’s culture and values (collaborative, curious and driven)
  • Demonstrated success in developing and optimizing molecular biology assays
  • In depth knowledge of molecular and analytical techniques such as qPCR, nucleic acid manipulation and characterization, enzyme activity assays, NGS,  flow cytometry, microscopy, HPLC, spectroscopic techniques
