Mission Bio - Decoding genotypic-phenotypic complexity in cancer

Mission Bio’s Tapestri platform provides integrated insights from multiple cutting-edge NGS  technologies at single cell resolution. Tapestri is the only platform capable of simultaneously profiling DNA mutations (SNVs, indels, and CNVs) as well as protein abundance in each cell. Via our talented team of microfluidics, molecular biologists, and bioinformatics scientists, we’re expanding this capability to other omics technologies as well in order to generate the high-resolution data required to understand and eradicate cancer.

The Tapestri platform has been widely adopted by leading research institutions and pharmaceutical companies around the world and is being featured in a growing number of high-impact publications. Founded in 2014, Mission Bio is growing rapidly via more than 120 million dollars in funding from Novo Growth, Cota Capital, Agilent Technologies and others.

About the Bioinformatics, Application and Assay Development Team

The Bioinformatics team is responsible for assay design, algorithm development and data analysis for new applications to support product and Pharma assay development teams. Our team develops solutions to support therapeutic development for oncology and cell and gene therapy applications using single cell analysis. We work cross functionally with the Mission Bio commercial and scientific teams to define, innovate, productize computational solutions and applications to address cutting edge questions. Our team members are located both in our Bay Area headquarters and around the US.

About the Role:
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Bioinformatics Scientist to join a growing team of bioinformaticians and assay development scientists dedicated to expanding Mission Bio’s single cell genomic and multi-omic assays. The successful candidate will lead single cell NGS assay development, devise analysis methods to generate insights from data and improve applications capability. In addition to fellow scientists, you will also work cross-functionally with our product and commercial teams as well as customers to translate findings into actively developed cutting-edge products.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of computational biology for the development of multiomic single-cell NGS assays.
  • Design highly multiplexed amplification assays capable of interrogating genes, mutations and biomarkers on single-cell multiomics platforms.
  • Develop new assay for our Pharma customers to address cutting edge biological and technical questions in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Develop bioinformatics and statistical methods, prototype new product features and applications designed to have clinical impact on cancer patients.
  • Communicate analysis results to internal and external stakeholders
  • Work closely with collaborators in industry and academia on translocation research. Work cross functionally with the Mission Bio commercial and scientific teams to support project planning and commercial launch.

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • PhD or Master’s in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistics, mathematics, physics or related quantitative fields.
  • Strong background in analysis of large NGS datasets and development of algorithms for NGS (e.g. variant calling, copy number detection, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to assess assay performance and derive biological insights by evaluating sequencing results using data visualizations and statistical tests.
  • Experience working with single-cell data. Experience with multi omics data is a plus
  • Expertise in at least one scripting language – R and/or Python and linux shell environment
  • Experience with good software development practices (e.g., testing, code documentation, code review)
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across organizations.
