Senior Scientist - Target Biology, Epitope ID at Atreca
San Carlos, CA, US

Atreca is an integrated biotechnology company located in San Carlos, CA in the San Francisco Bay Area. We apply our proprietary drug discovery platform to profile clinically relevant, active B cell responses in patients receiving successful treatment and, in turn, develop a portfolio of antibody therapeutics against novel tumor targets with the potential to treat large patient populations. Atreca seeks talented, driven individuals who are dedicated to making a positive impact on human health and are motivated to become key members of a growing biotechnology company.

Position Summary

We are seeking an outstanding and highly motivated scientist to join our Epitope ID group and become a key member of the research team. The successful candidate will apply their knowledge of biochemistry and biomolecular interactions to define the targets and epitope(s) recognized by Atreca’s patient-derived antibodies, with particular attention to features that may drive tumor specificity. The candidate will thrive in a cross-functional and collaborative environment. The position offers an exciting opportunity to advance an understanding of the target and epitope recognized by Atreca’s clinical-stage lead molecule ATRC-101 through the hands-on development of native-target enrichment protocols. They will likewise lead efforts to generate material required to support clinical bio-marker assay development.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Purify native target(s) from complex biological matrices (tumors, treated cells)
  • Develop robust target recognition assays for tracking enrichment
  • Optimize target expression, exposure, extraction, and preservation conditions
  • Oversee tech transfer of SOPs to CROs for scale-up and manage CRO collaborations
  • Define target identity, epitope, and tumor-specific features or forms therein
  • Analyze, organize, and present data. Think critically and troubleshoot
  • Lead from the bench, potential for one RA report
  • Follow laboratory safety guidelines and practices

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related field, or Master’s + significant relevant experience (exact title commensurate with experience)
  • Experience developing and applying protocols for untagged protein purification required
  • Experience with generating custom immunoaffinity purification workflows preferred
  • Experience with characterization of protein / nucleic acid complexes preferred
  • Experience with Antibody / Antigen binding and affinity techniques (Immunoprecipitation, ELISA, Western, Biacore, Octet, etc.) preferred
  • Experience with flow cytometry or yeast display a plus
  • Experience with mammalian cell-line culture and engineering a plus
  • Strong analytical skills, excellent communication skills, and attention to detail
  • Track record of being innovative, adaptable, and scientifically rigorous
  • Ability to work in a team, prioritize tasks, and drive projects to completion

Exact title commensurate with experience. Atreca is an equal opportunity employer.
