With multiple discovery programs and partnerships, Carmot is seeking a versatile and creative scientist to join the medicinal chemistry team.

Position summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated scientist with expertise in synthetic and medicinal chemistry to join Carmot’s medicinal chemistry team. The successful candidate will play a key role in Carmot’s drug discovery process by designing and independently synthesizing novel molecules for evaluation against Carmot’s targets. Working as part of an interdisciplinary team of experienced scientists, the Medicinal Chemist will develop scientific leadership and a broad working knowledge in the related disciplines of cancer and incretin biology, structural biology, computational chemistry, PKDM and toxicology, among others. The ideal candidate will be self-driven, highly organized, focused and enjoy working in a dynamic team environment.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Apply medicinal chemistry/SAR principles to design, prepare, identify and optimize lead molecules and make key contributions to move programs forward
  • Apply strong synthetic skills and problem-solving skills to make target molecules and optimize synthetic strategies for rapid analog preparation and scale up
  • Effectively communicate results and maintain excellent records in laboratory notebooks
  • Effectively communicate project progress at team, department and company levels, work effectively across functions and support project needs
  • Provide experimental procedures and summary of project progress for patents and publications
  • Assist in managing chemists at CRO’s

Qualifications:

  • PhD in organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry with 3-6 years of medicinal chemistry experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
  • Detailed and current knowledge of advances in medicinal chemistry, good understanding of ADME, physicochemical properties of drug-like compounds, and principles of medicinal chemistry
  • Demonstrated strong synthetic chemistry expertise with experiences in multi-step synthesis and strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent skills and expertise in compound purification and characterization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Flexibility to work simultaneously on multiple projects under tight timelines and changing priorities
  • A strong track record of creative problem solving as evidenced by program progression, publications and patents
