We are seeking a motivated Research Associate for our Technical Operations Analytical Development Group. In this role, you will perform key potency, purity and strength assays to support Process Development activities; troubleshoot and optimize particular assays as needed; assist in the development of new analytical methods to determine the strength, purity and/or potency of viral vector preparations; and perform other tasks such as lab equipment maintenance and supply ordering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performance of key assays in support of Process Development activities (viral genome titer, residual nucleic acid/protein, infectivity, cell-based potency, other methods as needed)

troubleshooting, optimization, and tracking of these key assays

  • assist in the development of new analytical methods in collaboration with supervisor
  • Documentation of accomplishments through the writing of test procedures and assay qualification reports. Presentation of results at lab and group meetings.
  • Initial qualification of assays in preparation for assay transfer to a regulated Quality Control environment
  • Maintain necessary laboratory notebook, supplies, equipment and space, prepare media and buffers, and train team members as needed.
  • Contribute to routine laboratory and instrument maintenance

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of general (bio) chemistry, cellular and molecular biology laboratory techniques
  • Excellent aseptic techniques and experience with mammalian cell culture
  • Good oral and written communication

  • Ability to identify assay problems and troubleshoot analytical methods in collaboration with supervisor

Preferred Skills & Competencies:

  • familiarity with the production or testing of viral vectors for gene therapy applications.
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following techniques: qPCR and/or ddPCR; ELISAs and other immunochemical assays; HPLC/UPLC; cell-based potency assays.
  • Experience with characterization or quality control release assays of gene therapy/cell therapy products.
  • Experience with transfer of assays from a development to a quality control environment, including assay qualification and transfer reports.


  • BS/MS in a biological science, chemistry or physics with one year of cumulative academic or industrial lab experience. The preferred candidate will have some exposure to analytical method development or viral vector characterization.
