We’re Looking For…

A freelance Visual Designer who is curious, collaborative, and interested in creating content to inspire a cultural movement around Bolt Threads and the revolutionary work we’re doing with Mylo™ material. 

 

You are relentless in your pursuit of making: turning big creative ideas in designs that make an impact on culture. You will illustrate concepts that excite and inspire, diving into the design process with a shared vision, creativity, and obsessive attention to detail. You can illustrate original concepts and create designs for multiple projects at one time, and inspire a team with a fresh and innovative approach to the work you touch. 

 

Overview

In their primary role, Bolt’s Visual Designer will combine their creativity and technical

skills to produce creative assets for the Bolt and Mylo brand, including presentations,

website design, social media posts, and other marketing assets. No matter the

deliverable, the Visual  Designer will work collaboratively alongside Bolt’s Art Director,

internal marketing team, and external agency partners to translate briefs from

conceptualization through finalized asset deliverables, improving the quality of existing

graphics and imbuing each project with their own sense of strategic design thinking. 

 

Candidates for this role can be from any background and will be well-served by previous

experience at advertising agencies, brand marketing departments, or design

departments within fashion, retail / e-commerce industries. 

To find success in this role, candidates should display stronger than average creative,

organizational, and time management skills. They should be detail-oriented self-starters

who can easily multitask and who understand project management stages. Excellent

presentation, communication, and design skills are essential. It is also important for the Visual Designer to be team a player,  comfortable with receiving feedback and implement peer suggestions to improve designs from strategic perspectives. 

 

Contract Terms

Candidates should be flexible but have availability to work up to 20 hours a week with potential for additional growth in the future. Currently, Bolt’s Marketing team works remotely, using virtual meeting platforms. As such, this role will require internet

connectivity and the ability to work remotely. Precise days/hours are flexible, though 

availability to communicate via email during standard hours of operation (9am-5pm M-F 

PST) is required.

What you’ll do...

  • Conceptualize, present, and deliver digital designs for websites, social channels, press releases, and internal brand templates. 
  • Employ a knowledge of social media best practices and conventions, including experience crafting social and brand assets for targeted audiences and demographics.
  • Take direction from Bolt’s art director to continually develop and raise the bar on the brand visual expression and communication
  • Work in collaboration with Bolt’s copy writer to finalize and deliver assets for internal review and final delivery
  • Contribute to on-going development of marketing team projects, strategy, materials, and campaigns, bringing ideas for visual executions, best practices, and inspiration
  • Perform Usability Tests and maintain standards to ensure Bolt creative is accessible to a growing audience with diverse perspectives. Comfort with A/B testing methodologies.

Visual Designer Tools of the Trade:

  • Adobe Creative Suite software –Photoshop and Illustrator mastery required, After Effects and Premier familiarity ideal.
  • Presentation Platforms: Google Slides and Microsoft PowerPoint required, Keynote familiarity will help.
  • Project management concepts and platforms– The marketing team uses Asana as our primary communication, project tracking tool from briefing through kick-off to final delivery. Informal communication and information sharing happens over Slack. Prior experience not required, but ability to learn and navigate the platforms is key.
  • Not required upon entry, but ability to learn Figma, Sanity, and Wordpress will be key.
  • Bonus skills: knowledge or experience creating animations, 3d models, and/or printed assets
