Role & Responsibilities

The Director of Finance & Commercial Operations will oversee all financial aspects of the business, from driving the company’s financial planning efforts to establishing core infrastructure to support our fast-growing organization. Reporting to the CEO, the Director will partner with the executive team to drive strategic decision-making. The Director will lead development of in-house finance and commercial operations functions, including financial reporting dashboard capabilities and financial controls and processes. In addition, the Director will be charged with establishing Velano Vascular’s Commercial Operations infrastructure, working closely with the commercial team to track field performance, assess ROI on sales & marketing activities, and hone commercial strategies.

The Director will join a talented, entrepreneurial team that has grown multiple start-up companies into established organizations in the health and technology sectors. Key Responsibilities:

Finance (80%)


Oversee financial operations and direct financial planning and structure
Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and overseeing adoption of Velano policies and procedures
Lead financial planning, budgeting, & forecasting activities
Assess Velano’s current financial condition and past performance by collecting, interpreting and reporting key financial data (variance to plan, projections, risks, and other special projects as required)
Create dashboards to provide a concise, accessible overview of financial performance
Prepare timely in-depth reports on financial performance on a quarterly and annual basis
Partner with leadership to assess strategic business initiatives by conducting analyses of financial risks and benefits
Develop annual financial plans and projections for the company
Prepare short and long-term financial forecasts for use with internal management and external parties, including analysis of the financial climate and market trends to assist senior executives in creating strategic plans for the future
Ensure that all of the company's financial practices are in line in statutory regulations, legislation, and guidelines
Protects assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls
Establish budgets and control expenses effectively
Monitor cash flow, accounts, and other financial transactions
Commercial Operations (20%)


Establish function and infrastructure for company commercial operations (track field performance to plan, assess value of sales & marketing activities, etc.)
Provide data-driven input on sales structure, segmentation and coverage, business planning, productivity improvement
Develop/modify operational processes to ensure resources are utilized, tracked, and reported
Establish and oversee customer service function, including the plans and programs necessary to ensure customer satisfaction
Skills/Experience


Minimum 10+ years of experience in Finance, Business Development, Sales Operations or related field (at least 8 years direct Finance experience)
Medical device/MedTech experience required
Start-up experience preferred
Strong leadership, technology, analytical and communication skills are a must
Demonstrated capability to work in fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment
In-depth knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles, laws and best practices
Exposure to all aspects of corporate accounting and all pertinent GAAP, SEC rules and regulations including Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
Extremely detail oriented and excellent time management, decision-making, presentation, organizational and problem solving skills
Ability to act independently with sound business judgment and emotional maturity
Proficient at managing multiple, cross-functional projects and ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines

Education Requirements


Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, marketing, business or related field - Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) or a professional designation such as certified public accountant (CPA) or certified management accountant (CMA) is preferred
