In this position, the successful candidate will apply his/her skills and expertise in protein biochemistry and molecular biology to identify targets bound by cancer patient-derived anti-tumor antibodies produced using Atreca’s IRC™ technology. Here the successful candidate will employ multiple protein biochemistry strategies including batch and column immune-affinity purification, antibody-antigen crosslinking and column chromatography to purify and isolate target protein for analysis by mass spectrometry. Additionally, the successful candidate will employ other approaches including array technologies, and transcriptomic and/or proteomic approaches performed both in-house and by CROs in identifying antibody targets. The successful candidate will participate in the validation of target candidates using biochemical methods such as affinity determination and epitope characterization. Finally, the successful candidate will participate in the confirmation of the target’s biological role in mediating antibody efficacy in vitro and/or in vivo. This position is an exciting opportunity to characterize mechanisms of action of Atreca antibodies and therapeutic candidates as well as to discover novel cancer targets chosen by the immune systems of cancer patients.


Responsible for conducting target identification efforts directly and through the management of reports
Participate in leadership of target identification efforts in coordination with Senior Director of Biology
Purify antibody targets for mass spectrometry analysis using multiple strategies and techniques
Utilize array, transcriptomic and/or proteomic approaches as needed for target identification
Devise and implement alternative strategies and methods for target identification as necessary
Participate in managing CRO studies
Organize follow-up validation studies for target candidates
Participate in target confirmation studies
Map and characterize epitopes
Communicate results with the Therapeutics Team
Manage direct reports
Follow laboratory safety guidelines and practices

PhD with 3-5 years post-doctoral research experience in related field plus 3-5 years relevant industry experience or PhD in related field with 5-8 years of relevant experience in industry
Absolutely Required: Demonstrated expertise in protein purification and characterization
Required: Background in oncology or immune-oncology
Required: Experience characterizing antibody-antigen interactions and specificity using multiple techniques including cross-linking and Kd determination
Experience characterizing post-translational modifications such as glycosylation, lipidation, etc., is a plus
Experience with array technologies, especially protein arrays, is a plus
Highly Desirable: Expertise with protein display systems
Experience managing direct reports
Must have excellent organization, planning skills, and the ability to work under timeline in a fast-paced environment
Excellent written and oral communication skills
