We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual who will excel in the dynamic environment of an early-stage startup company, enjoys working on big projects, and taking on new scientific challenges. The candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work independently to achieve their goals and be capable of working on more than one project simultaneously. This individual will work directly with the Founding team to define study objectives and to participate in executing these studies. This role demands a highly goal-driven approach and the ability to focus on time-sensitive objectives.
-The biologist will perform mammalian cell/stem cell culture, expansion, preservation, analysis, flow cytometry, etc.
-Live-Dead and other cell health indicator assay development is critical to this position.
-Oversee all aspects of stem cell culture, preparation of culture reagents; culture room upkeep and restocking, cell sourcing, etc.
-Responses to after hour emails / texts are expected.
-Department of Defense SBIR has hiring regulations: please U.S. Permanent Residents and Citizens only.
-Prefer to start immediately.
-Free shuttle service is provided from the Downtown BART station and around UC-Berkeley Campus.
-Ph.D. (or M.S. 3+ years, B.S. 6+ years) in Biology, Bioengineering, Cell Biology, Cryobiology or a related discipline
-Enthusiasm to work in a fast-paced start-up environment
-Must be eager to learn, self-motivated, flexible, accountable and effectively handle multiple tasks.
- Able to work independently in a small team research environment within a larger national laboratory.
-Takes initiative to improve work processes, develop innovative scientific methodologies and approaches to enhance research productivity.
-Compliance with all EHS regulations at national laboratory level
-Primary analysis of data to enable interpretation of experiments
-Demonstrated research ability in biology/cell culture/primary cell work.
-Strong understanding and execution of basic mammalian cell biology culture methods and analysis tools.
-Experience with primary human cell lines.
-Proficiency in flow cytometry methods, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, mammalian cell culture management, and expert familiarity with experimental design.
-2+ years of experience with human stem cell maintenance; Experience with human hematopoietic stem cells desired
-in vitro directed differentiation paradigms and functional characterization of derived cell types.
-Knowledge of microarray analysis or liquid handling automation is a plus
-Bonus: Experience with cryoprotectants and freezing/vitrification methods a major plus.
