Vice President , Research & Development at Velano Vascular

The Vice President of R&D serves as a member of the company’s leadership team, overseeing the development of a family of novel vascular access medical devices. The VP R&D will perform all aspects required for hands-on product design and development in an entrepreneurial technical organization. The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert in mechanical engineering with a specific concentration on novel, high volume medical devices. Success in this leadership role entails:

Provide leadership to a team of highly motivated, world class development engineers
Create a culture of innovation and excellence in a fast-paced, lean environment
Work with healthcare KOL's to generate and refine product specifications
Generate required documentation including timelines, budgets, specifications, testing protocols, and failure analysis
Deliver programs on time, on budget that provide sustainable competitive advantage.
Own the Design Control System assure complete compliance with all requirements
Prepare documentation for regulatory submissions and internal quality system
Develop/coordinate efficient manufacturing processes with third party contract manufacturers
Develop design quality standards system to comply with industry standards
Coordinate and manage bench studies
Collaborate on pre-clinical, human factors, and human studies
Develop ideas into inventions and prepare patent disclosures
Evaluate novel technologies for addition to the company’s portfolio

Knowledge / Skills / Experience

Strong project management experience – overseeing budgets and timelines,
Demonstrated ability to deliver on time, on budget in a fast paced lean company
Creative leader
Experience with high volume novel hospital supply products (e.g., phlebotomy needles, peripheral IV catheters, extension sets)
Entrepreneurial and hands-on mind-set
15+ years of experience in medical products design and development
Education Requirements

Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering and fifteen+ years of experience.

Job Type & Compensation

This is a full -time role with competitive compensation that is commensurate with experience, and excellent benefits. Ability to travel domestically 10- 25% required.
