Engineer, Bioprocessing at ZymoChem

ZymoChem is seeking a Bioprocess Engineer to immediately join and contribute to our company’s R&D efforts for the production of industrially relevant bioproducts. This Engineer will be part of the team responsible for developing scalable fermentation and product recovery processes. Responsibilities for this position will include [1] developing product recovery processes at the lab scale for purifying ZymoChem’s target fermentation products to industrial specification, and [2] subsequently scaling the recovery process to the pilot level. The Bioprocess Engineer will also assist with setting up & operating fermentations as well as building computational bioprocess models.

This Engineer position offers a growth-based opportunity to join an established, tight-knit team and immediately impact how the next generation of chemical processes and bioproducts are validated, scaled, and commercialized. The position requires an adept ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with other researchers in a fast-paced environment.

  • BS or MS in chemical engineering, bioengineering, biotechnology, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 2 years research experience with an academic lab or an industrial research group

  • Extensive knowledge of chemical engineering principles, biochemical processes, and microbial cultivation

  • Prior R&D experience with fermentations and downstream process unit operations such as centrifugation, filtration, and distillation are strongly preferred

  • Self-starter who is organized and proficient with record-keeping, data logging, and data processing

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Other Relevant Qualifications

  • Experience with analytics such as HPLC and LC/MS for detecting and quantifying small molecules

  • Ability to maintain a well-organized laboratory notebook, prepare technical reports, and make scientific presentations

  • Experience in experimental design and statistical analysis of data

  • Ability to write scripts (e.g., Python and R) for data analysis is a plus

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Past work in an industrial setting or startup research setting is a plus
